How do you measure a life well-lived? In laughter? Cups of coffee? Obstacles overcome? For our member Andre, a life well-lived means all of these things, and many of these moments are highlighted in his new book, “Colorful Memoirs: A Journey Through Andre’s Life.”

This adult coloring book provides readers with creative snapshots of significant moments in Andre’s life, from playing childhood games with his sister to his graduation from Schurz High School. With support from his family and Envision Unlimited residential house manager Treena Glover, Andre courageously shares his story with others, inspiring them to seek solace and strength in their own journey.

His story is so impactful that Block Club Chicago, an online publication covering important news and stories within Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods, recently published a story about him.

“Andre has a deep yearning desire for people to see him beyond his mental health challenges,” Glover said. “Through his experiences, he inspires those around him, demonstrating the power of perseverance and the human spirit.”

All proceeds from the book will benefit the Envision Unlimited Adaptive Cycling program, so more people with disabilities can experience the life-changing benefits of cycling. Andre volunteered to be a team leader for our 2024 Summer of Cycling events, pledging to raise $1,250 for a new tandem bicycle.

We’re very proud of Andre and his determination, and we hope that his story can inspire you to seek solace and strength in your own journey.
